The most common virus since the Fall of 1995 is the Word.concept virus. The Wor d.concept virus continues grow more rapidly than any previous virus, infecting 4 9% of all survey sites. General Characteristics The Concept virus family, also known as Prank and WordMacro/Concept, is a collection of macros for Microsoft Word that attach themselves to Word documents and templates. Because it uses the Word Basic macro facility, Concept can infect MS Word v6.x and above on Windows-based machines (Windows, Windows 95, and Windows NT) as well as Macs. The virus is spread by merely opening an infected document or template with MS Word. It then loads automatically and infects Word's global template file, NORMAL.DOT. Once active, the virus transfers itself to any documents and templates created with the File, Save As command. It also saves documents as templates instead of documents, as a result of which the drive and directory choices in the File, Save As dialog box are greyed out.
